General information

In Laval, the Cyclovia is a festive, family-friendly event designed to promote the use of public space and encourage cycling. Want to learn more about what a Cyclovia is and why we’re hosting one in Laval? Click here!

The event takes place on Boulevard Cartier between Michaud and Ampère streets, as well as on Boulevard Bon-Pasteur, from Cartier to Laurier Street. Booths and activities will be set up along the entire route. You can check out the route map here!

A portion of Boulevard Bon-Pasteur will be a quieter zone - perfect for beginners to get comfortable on their bikes in a safe, confidence-building environment.

Yes! The event and all scheduled activities are free and open to everyone from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Some activities are designed for specific audiences and this will be mentioned in the activity description. Some workshops may require advance registration, which will also be noted in their descriptions.

 

For the Cyclovia, don’t forget:

  • Your favorite active mode of transport (bike, rollerblades, etc.)

  • Your helmet

  • A reusable water bottle (fountains available inside the Émile-Nelligan Library and at Bernard-Landry Park)

  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing

  • A lock if you plan to park your bike

  • Sunscreen, a hat, or a raincoat depending on the forecast

  • A big smile and a willingness to enjoy a car-free street!

Yes. Helmets are required for anyone using bikes, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, or any other form of active transportation; except walking.

On Cyclovia day, we invite you to use active transportation to reach the event. Thanks to Laval’s growing cycling network, you can get there by bike from any neighborhood! We’ll provide safe routes for each area.

The Cyclovia is also accessible by public transit. From any of the three metro stations, it’s less than a 30-minute walk to the event.

Nope, you don't need to register to participate ! Just show up and enjoy. Some activities—like the “First Pedal” workshop or bike repair sessions—may require registration in advance or on site. This will be indicated in the activity description.

No. While bikes are the star of the show, all active transportation is welcome: scooter, rollerblades, skateboards, you name it. Walking is also perfectly fine—fresh air is included.

Yes, e-bikes (that meet SAAQ standards) and e-scooters are welcome, as long as safety rules are respected—especially wearing a helmet. Keep speeds reasonable to ensure everyone’s safety. Electric mopeds are not allowed on the route.

Yes! Pets are welcome as long as they’re on a leash and under control. Bring water for them and make sure they don’t block traffic.

Yes. The route is mostly flat and on streets closed to motor traffic, making it easy for wheelchair users and people using mobility aids to participate. Note: the section between Avenue du Parc and Avenue Ampère crosses a bridge over the railway and may be less accessible.

Accessible rest areas and public washrooms are available at the Émile-Nelligan Library.

Traffic & safety

No. There’s no fixed route or direction. You’re free to move at your own pace within the motor-free zone. Maps will be available on site and online.

No. During the event, certain streets will be completely closed to motor traffic for everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Boulevard Cartier will be closed between Michaud and Ampère, and Boulevard Bon-Pasteur will be closed from Cartier to Laurier. There will be detours, check the "Street closures" section to learn more about it.

Yes. A first aid team will be ready to assist in case of injury, discomfort, or any need for help.

If you spot a risky situation or an accident:

  • Talk to a volunteer (look for t-shirts or armbands)

  • Call the local emergency number

  • Head to the “CRE” tent on site

Yes, bike racks will be available near activity zones. However, we can’t provide security, so please bring a lock. The organizing team is not responsible for loss or theft.

Yes! Several restaurants along the route will be open with food and beverages for sale.

No, no alcohol will be sold during the event.

Weather

Yes! The Cyclovia will take place rain or shine. Dress for the weather—hat, sunscreen, raincoat, etc. In case of extreme conditions posing a danger for participants, the event will be cancelled and announced online.

If the event is cancelled, we’ll post about it 48 hours in advance on the Cyclovia Laval website and on the CRE de Laval social media. Stay tuned!

Getting involved

Of course! The event’s success depends on our amazing volunteers. You can help with setup/takedown, lead a workshop, or manage street access. Lunch is provided for shifts over three hours.

Yes, our team or partners may take photos and videos to promote the event. By participating, you consent to the potential use of your image.

If you prefer not to appear, let our photographer know so we can accommodate you.
